10 Steps to fill every spot on your dance photography rep team

November 22, 2022

As a dance & senior photographer just starting out in Louisville Kentucky, I knew I needed to get creative to help build my photography business.

I decided to start a dance photography rep team and knew that I wanted to have 10-12 girls on my dance rep team when I officially launched the program.

However, even though I had come up with a cute name and I’d decided on the program schedule…I just didn’t know exactly how to start reaching dancers in the Louisville area.

Through much trial and error, I finally figured out what worked for me and I’m here to help you save time while building your team!

Below are the TOP 10 steps I took to get word out and filled all my available spots in 48 hours!

  1. Reached out on social media to 5 dancers from different studios.
  2. Did a free session for each dancer, included digitals for them.
  3. Held a free group session for all 5 dancers, included digitals for them.
  4. Posted all sessions to social media and had dancers do the same and tag me in their posts.
  5. Started talking about my Dance Rep Team on social media.
  6. Held one more free group session at a unique location, included digitals and required tagging.
  7. Let one member of current free team do an instagram take over during the unique session. ( it got all their friends watching)
  8. At the end of it all, I had them make a video about what they loved most from working with me.
  9. Posted all of my new content to social media and opened applications to become a dance rep.
  10. Had a graphic for applicants to share and tag me on social media after they applied, letting others know they could apply also.
  11. BONUS- Be sure to invite your current dancers to apply for the actual team!

Not even kidding, I had all 10 spots filled and paid in 48 hours!

These dancer’s (and parents) were excited to work me, they were my exact ideal clients!

Did I have to work for free to build my portfolio and create the buzz I needed around my business, yes. Was it absolutely worth it? YES!

If you decide to try this process out, let me know how it goes for you! Good Luck!
